In addition to competition BBQ, we also cater private parties and corporate events. So if you're in NJ, PA, or DE, contact us at: Article about "Barbeque on the River" Our BBQ is traditional Kansas City style, but with just enough flavorful differences to set us apart. We specialize in the standard competition meats - pork ribs, brisket, pulled pork and chicken - but we've also been known to apply our BBQ techniques to dishes not traditionally thought of as prepared in a smoker or grill. If you have a business and would like to expose it to the thousands of people that attend BBQ contests, not to mention those that will visit us on the web, we're currently securing new sponsors. As
always, we had a blast in
New Holland.
But this year was special. Not only because Smokey T's Pit Crew
finished 5th out of 72 teams, but also because
Derek's daughter
Erika competed in the kid's BBQ competition, also known as "Kid's Q".
Thirty-one kids had a great time
She took 2nd in chicken, 2nd in beef
(with her Aunt Dawn's recipe) and 5th in the chef's choice category
using one of her favorite desserts that her Uncle
Tom taught her to make (Tom gave her some great guidance while
she prepared for her first competition). She accepted her
Congratulations Erika!! Smokey T's Pit Crew had a really good weekend as well. We took 2nd place in Pork and 2nd place in Brisket. We also won 1st place for our homemade sausage (2nd time this year). Our usual high-scoring ribs weighed us down with a 58th place finish. Any BBQ competitor will tell you that sometimes when you think you've turned in the greatest thing ever, you end up with a low score that leaves you scratching your head. That's what happened this time. But even with the low score in ribs we finished fifth out of 72 really tough teams from as far away as Texas and North Carolina -so we were very happy.
The
bottom line is that it By the way, it's the little things that add up to a great event and make it stand out from the rest. Free t-shirts for competitors, free Saturday morning breakfast, and reasonable ice prices, for example. Not to mention the great volunteers that do things like happily load up the heavy Kid's Q supplies and cart them back to the other side of the park. To cap the weekend, several competitors and friends staying at the Country Squire Inn behind the park had pizza and shared stories before heading out early the next day.
